Worldwide Coaching Magazine: Creativity (January 2015 edition)

WCM January 2015

Creativity.

Wikipedia describes Creativity as a phenomenon whereby something new and in some way valuable is created (such as an idea, a joke, a literary work, painting or musical composition, a solution, an invention etc).

A great example is the cover of this month’s magazine. This ‘Rainbow Multiscape’ was created by Graig Colvin, a professional photographer and educator located in San Jose, California. He created this image by presenting bodies in a creative way, thus adding value by offering the viewer a different perspective on the human body.

In our profession we often do the same; offering our clients a new perspective on situations already known to them. By doing this we make room for new thoughts that might lead to different, more effective, actions.

We add value by creating our own coaching processes, coaching methods and coaching practices. Therefor we are the creators of not only our own lives but also the lives of our coachees.

In this edition we focus on creativity in our coaching practice; creating more value for our coachees but also more value to our own coaching practice.

We also offer you some insights in how your peers use their creativity to attract new clients and get some astonishing results. If you are looking for ways to build your coaching business, I cordially invite you to join us on February 5th for a complimentary webinar (turn to page 14 for more info and to reserve your spot).

Hope to ‘see’ you then!

Cheers,

Worldwide Coaching Magazine: Cognitive Coaching

December 2014 edition

In this edition the focus is on Cognitive Coaching.

Antoine de Saint Exupéry,  French writer and aviator (1900-1944) stated that ”The meaning of things lies not in things themselves, but in our attitudes towards them”.

By exploring our attitudes to events rather than focusing excessively on the events themselves, we can understand better why we react in some self-and-goal-defeating ways that we do.

Maybe this is the heart and soul of this brain focused approach that we know as cognitive behavioural coaching (this is not identical to the Cognitive Coaching℠ practised in the US which is generally used within the teaching profession).

Cognitive Behavioural Coaching derives from the work of two leading cognitive behavioural theorists, researchers and therapists: Aaron Beck, who founded Cognitive Therapy and Albert Ellis, who developed Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy.

Since we are coaches and not therapists we can define Cognitive Coaching as “a collaborative, goal directed endeavour using multimodal learning methods to help individuals develop their capabilities and remove any psychological blocks that interfere with this process”  (Neenan and Palmer 2012).

In this edition we explore some thoughts and share some opinions on cognitive coaching and hope to stimulate your interest.

Worldwide Coaching Magazine: Motivation

Motivation

What motivates us to publish this monthly magazine?

According to Leanne Hoagland-Smith for human beings, there must be some desire or want to excite coachees to move from where they are now to where they want to be.  And motivation now becomes the catch all for those desires and wants.

Grant Soosalu however, states that Zig Ziglar, one of the top motivational speakers of all time, points out, “motivation follows action”, and the research backs him up.

So, what comes first, motivation or action?

Maybe Amy Brann can shed some light on this. She has just published a book “Neuroscience for Coaches” and describes what actually happens inside of our brain when we are being coached. In this edition we review her book and we discover the neuroscientific facts behind motivation.

What ever gets us into motion, we need some energy to keep the ball rolling. Stuart Haden reveals where that energy comes from and what we can do to increase the level of energy.

Getting back to our original question. What motivates us to publish a monthly magazine about our wonderful profession is that the world will be a better place to live in when we share our combined knowledge, experience and passion with you, our valued readers.

And of course, we hope this will motivate you to become the best you can be, and act accordingly 🙂

Cheers,
